Since the first International Peanut Conference held in Guangzhou, China in 2006, the international peanut research community has worked through the International Peanut Genome Initiative (IPGI) to integrate genetics, genomics and biotechnological approaches into the process of developing effective, environmentally friendly solutions that mitigate economic risks of peanut production. The IPGI has facilitated and improved collaboration between international scientists and stakeholders through a series of international conferences on Advances in Arachis through Genomics and Biotechnology (AAGB), which provide a forum to develop, implement, and report results of scientific research toward strategic plans that ultimately lead to more productive varieties and products of more exceptional quality. The international peanut community through IPGI has come a long way, from lack of availability of molecular markers to the completion and releases of high-quality genome sequences of two diploid (2014) and cultivated peanuts (2018). However, there remains a long way to go for genomics-assisted breeding as routine implementation. Nevertheless, the stage is now set to harvest the fruits of genomics research for peanut genetic improvement, cultivation, and production. This will contribute to the entire peanut community, and global food safety and security in general to fight malnutrition.

The 11th International Conference of the Peanut Research Community on Advances in Arachis through Genomics and Biotechnology (AAGB-2019) will be convened October 21 - 25, 2019 in Ji’nan, China. The season is a pleasantly cool autumn at that time. The venue will be the Nanjiao Hotel and Resort (http://www.jnnjhotel.com/en/) and Shandong Grand Hotel (http://www.sdhotel.com.cn/en), which is located just south of the Ji’nan City Center near the Thousand-Buddha Mountain and Quancheng Park. Jinan, the Capital City of Shandong Province, also called as the Spring-Water City. Shandong Province is one of the top peanut producing regions in China with an average annual peanut growing area of 800,000 hectares.

AAGB-2019 will be a forum to foster scientific exchange between members of the international peanut research community through oral and poster presentations, and also to discuss the future of the international peanut conference after the completion of peanut genome sequencing project. In addition, the organizing committee would also like to recognize the leaderships and the “real heroes” who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes from the start to the finish, making this IPGI and peanut genome sequencing project a reality and a success story.

Call for Abstracts: The Organizing Committee invites scientists/postdoctoral associates/students to participate and make poster or oral presentations at the conference.  Abstracts (maximum 250 words) should be submitted electronically on the attached abstract form by email to: aagb@aagb2019.cn.
